Classical planar algebraic curves realizable by quadratic polynomial differential systems

In this paper we show planar quadratic polynomial differentialsystems exhibiting as solutions some famous planar invariant algebraic curves. Analysis of information use in agricultural science PhD theses at Central University of Venezuela

Purpose – To analyze information use in agricultural science PhD theses submitted between 1986 and 2002 in the Faculty of Agronomy, Central University of Venezuela (UCV). Design/methodology/approach – The source of information was the UCV Faculty of Agronomy, Library's database, “Tesis”. The unidimensional production and use indicators analyzed included: scientific production, reference density, self-citations, document contemporaneousness and type of documents cited, reference scattering and accessibility of the journals cited. Findings – The analysis of the data obtained from 4,646 bibliographic references in 42 agricultural science PhD theses provides insight into information use in a Venezuelan agricultural science community. The mean number of references per thesis found was 113?±?21. The number of women earning a PhD in agriculture was observed to grow. The percentage of self-citations varied widely. The half-life was 11 years and the Price's Index 22 per cent. According to the distribution by document type, most of the publications cited were articles in journals, while references to technical standards and internet publications were rare. UCV Faculty of Agronomy PhD students tended to seek information primarily in the Anglo Saxon literature. The Celestino Bonfanti Library periodicals section met a high proportion (92 per cent) of the demand for journals located in the first and second concentration-scattering zones. Originality/value – This is the only paper on the evaluation of PhD theses in Venezuela. The findings will be useful for education planners in Venezuela and other developing countries.Publicad

A critical discoursive socio-cognitive approach to content analysis of contemporary still images regarding islamophobia

These attacks embody a global geo-political tension between western and Muslim countries, so a plausible clash of civilizations can eventually occur. Moreover, the militarization of public areas, the increase of border controls and the hostility against Muslim population generally crystallises in an islamophobic global concern. Thus, using images as investigative data and a discursive method I analyse and compare the hegemonic and the alternative discourses regarding islamophobia. Results do determine how hegemonic discourses foster engagement and involvement with spectators appealing to western values like democracy and freedom by focusing on social features. Alternative discourses create this engagement through feelings, emotions and a reflexive perspective upon this social fact by targeting subjects’ cognitive brains structures.(spa) Los acontecimientos de Nueva York el 11 de septiembre del 2001 no tienen precedents en la historia moderna. Los ataques encarnan las teniones geo-políticas entre países musulmanes y occidentales evidenciando un plausible choque de civilizacioines. Además la militarización de los espacios públicos, el incremento de los controles fronterizos y la hostilidad generalizada hacia la población musulmana cristaliza en una preocupación islamofóbica global. Así, utilizando imagenes como datos de investigación y un método discursivo analizo y comparo los discursos hegemónico y alternativo en relación a la islamofóbia. Los resultados determinan cómo el discurso hegemónico promueve el compromiso y la implicación de los espectodores apelando a valores occidentales como la libertad y la democracia centrándose en aspectos sociales. El discurso alternativo crea el compromiso con los espectadores mediante emociones, sentimientos y una perspectiva reflexiva sobre este hecho social centrándose en la estructura cognitiva de los sujetos

Implementación de un sistema de captura de gestos usando un leap motion y redes neuronales para su clasificación

Se describe a continuación el proceso llevado a cabo para la implementación de un sistema de captura de gestos usando un sensor propietario y redes neuronales, el prototipo se construyó usando tecnologías web y algunos frameworks para javascript junto con un sensor llamado “leap motion” usado como dispositivo de entrada. Los datos otorgados por el sensor son la base para el entrenamiento de las redes neuronales a usar. En las pruebas se compararon los 2 modelos; clasificación multi-etiqueta(ML) y clasificación multi-clase(MC), teniendo en cuenta factores como: tiempos de entrenamiento, error aproximado y cantidad de datos
